BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Eric Donsky – Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Eric Donsky is a co-founder of OcuSense. Mr. Donsky has 15 years' experience in the development
of early-stage biotechnology at medical device companies, both as a founder and senior manager.
Prior to the formation of OcuSense, Eric was the founding CEO of Zolaris BioSciences,
an early-stage biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of
therapeutics targeting the autoimmune and infectious disease markets. He was responsible for all
corporate functions and was instrumental in assembling the company's drug discovery assets and
building its drug pipeline through technology licensing and M&A activities. Mr. Donsky was also
responsible for raising equity capital for the company, including its $3.2 million Series A round.
Prior to launching Zolaris, Mr. Donsky was the founding CEO of Applied CarboChemicals, Inc. ("ACC"), a
biotechnology company focused on the commercialization of fermentation processes and derivative
products for the food and nutritional supplement industries, serving several industrial markets.
During his tenure as CEO, ACC closed its Series A and Series B rounds of equity financing, secured
an $8.8 million Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S.
Department of Energy, established research and licensing agreements with several government and
university laboratories, and formed both process and product development alliances with
collaborative partners. ACC was a recipient of the 1997 R&D 100 Award in recognition of its
platform process technology. ACC is venture-backed, with Toyota as its largest corporate investor.. The
company recently started up an $11 million manufacturing facility to begin supplying its initial
target markets. In addition to founding operating companies, Mr. Donsky has recently become involved
in the development and licensing of a cardiovascular device to Medtronic that will be integrated into
their line of external defibrillators. Mr. Donsky graduated from Boston University in 1987 with a
BS in Business Administration.
Michael A. Lemp, M.D., F.A.C.S. – Chief Medical Officer & Chairman of SAB
Dr. Michael A. Lemp is an acknowledged leader in the field of dry eye/ocular surface disease. Over
the past three decades, Dr. Lemp has published 185 scientific articles, and four books and served on national,
international and government advisory boards. He organized and chaired the National Eye
Institute/Industry Workshop on Clinical Trials in Dry Eye; this report stands as the worldwide
standard for the definition, classification and design of clinical trials for dry eye. His seminal work in
the understanding of tear film instability in dry eye states has advanced the knowledge of
pathological events in the disease process. After obtaining an MD degree and completing residency
training from Georgetown, he served as a Fellow in Corneal Disease at the Massachusetts Eye and
Ear Infirmary.
In addition, Dr. Lemp worked at Schepens Eye Research Institute (Harvard Medical
School) where he authored the initial papers on qualitative disorders of the tear film. He also served
as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Georgetown University, as an
officer and board member of many national and international ophthalmic organizations, member of
the FDA Ophthalmic Devices Advisory Board, and NIH Study Sections and advisory committees. He
is currently Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Georgetown and George Washington
universities, Editor-in-Chief of The Ocular Surface – the international
journal of review for ocular surface disease – and serves as a scientific advisor to many major
ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies. Also, he is a scientific reviewer for all of the ophthalmic
journals. Dr. Lemp has been a visiting professor at 68 universities and in 1998 received the Castroviejo
Medal, the highest international prize for professional accomplishment in the field of corneal disease.
Elias Vamvakas – OcuSense Board Member & Chief Executive Officer of Occulogix, Inc.
Elias Vamvakas has been Chairman of OccuLogix since June 2003 and has served as the company’s Chief Executive Officer since July 2004. Mr. Vamvakas co-founded TLC Vision Corporation in 1993. He was a director of TLC Vision from 1994 to 2007 and was its Chairman from 1994 to 2006. Mr. Vamvakas was also TLC Vision’s Chief Executive Officer from 1994 to July 2004. He was named to “Canada’s Top Forty Under Forty” in 1996. In 1999 he was named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for Ontario in the Emerging Category and Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year for Innovative Partnering. In 2000, Mr. Vamvakas was recognized by Profit Magazine for managing one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies.
Donald Rindell – OcuSense Board Member
Currently, Donald Rindell is Senior Director of Business Development for Amylin Pharmaceuticals. Before moving to Amylin, Mr. Rindell served the industry as a highly sought-after independent consultant. He was Acting President of Medical Device Group, an acute care and respiratory company; VP of Business Development for CardioNet, a “real-time” 24/7 cardiovascular monitoring company; and VP of Business Development for Therafuse, a continuous infusion pump manufacturer. His responsibilities included corporate sales, M&A activities, product planning and new strategic initiatives. Prior to his consulting practice, Mr. Rindell was Vice President of Corporate Development & Strategic Planning for Advanced Tissues Sciences (ATS), a biotechnology company based in La Jolla, California. He has also served as Vice President for Global Business Management for Braun/Thermoscan, a division of the Gillette Company. At Braun/Thermoscan he played a major role in building Braun’s medical diagnostics business to sales exceeding $170 million. Mr. Rindell was also employed by Hybritech, a division of Eli Lilly as Executive Director of Sales and Marketing. He holds a BS in Economics from the College of Wooster and an MBA from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Business.
Thomas Reeves – OcuSense Board Member & Occulogix Chief Operating Officer
Thomas P. Reeves has served as President and Chief Operating Officer of OccuLogix, Inc., since September 2004. Mr. Reeves was President of Borderfree, an international e-commerce service provider, and of the Canada Post Borderfree Partnership, from March 2001 to September 2004. He was Chief Executive Officer from January 2003 to September 2004. From 1998 until 2000, Mr. Reeves was President of Beamscope Canada Inc., a retail distributor of micro-computer products. Prior to that, beginning in 1994, he was President of Merisel Canada, a subsidiary of one of the largest distributors of micro-computer products. From 1992 until 1994, Mr. Reeves was Managing Director of Merisel Europe, where he was responsible for all strategic, financial and operational aspects of subsidiaries in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Russia.
